Frequently Asked Questions

QUESTION: Do kids really stick with and benefit from the program?
ANSWER Yes, they do.  Give us six months to one year, minimum, and we can improve your child's self-confidence, self-esteem and self-discipline;  When a child is feeling good about him/herself, they naturally want to continue.
QUESTION: My child has a disability: will you accept him/her?
                                        ALSO:
My child is four years old; will you accept him/her?
ANSWER You are welcome to speak to the instructor at the location and see if they can work with the child.  He/She is very welcome to try it out... on a two-week basis if necessary.
QUESTION: Do you have any discounts?
ANSWER Most definitely!  If you have one child in the program and pay the fees in full at the beginning of the semester, you will receive one week free!  If you have two children same family the fee is $6.00 per week per child.  If you have three or more children same family the fee is $5.00 per week per child.
QUESTION: I do not know if I can afford the uniform/safety equipment & training equipment...what can I do?
ANSWER America's Youth provides a non-mandatory donation raffle; which allows the kids to earn their uniform, safety equipment, and training equipment - plus earn class fees and tournament fees.
QUESTION: My child was sick last week; can he/she make up the class somehow?
ANSWER Yes... just attend two classes on the same night.  You may also see the instructor for information on additional locations or nights.
QUESTION: Can my child attend more than one class per week?
ANSWER Yes,  Your instructor can inform you of your options for additional locations.  (Unless it is a make-up class, the second class that your child attends in the same week is half price.)
QUESTION: What type of Karate is being taught?
ANSWER There are three different types of Martial Arts:  Karate, Judo, and Kung Fu.  We teach Tae Kwon Do - Olympic Style Karate.
QUESTION: How does the belt system work?
ANSWER Children can advance from White Belt all the way up to Black Belt!  The order is:  White, Yellow, Orange, Purple, Green, Blue, Red, Brown and Black.  Each belt color has one to three ranks to pass before graduating to the next color.
QUESTION: My child is already a purple (green, orange, ect.) belt in another Karate class that is not with America's Youth will he/she have to begin as a white belt with you?
                                                              OR:
My child has to switch to a different location within the program because we are moving;  what will happen to the belt/rank that he/she has already earned?
ANSWER We will honor their existing rank and then advance them further when they show they are ready.
QUESTION: I have custody of my child every other week, so he/she can only attend every other week; can I still register him/her in your classes?
ANSWER Yes, but this is obviously not the best option for the child.  He/she could attend two classes on the same night or you might see if there is a location available in the other parent's area.
QUESTION: How long will my child remain a white belt?
ANSWER One semester... Ten to Fifteen weeks!
QUESTION: How long before my child becomes a black belt?

QUESTION: My child wants to attend the Tournament; what will he/she get out of it?
ANSWER The tournament helps to build a healthy competitive attitude in life...it is also great for developing self-confidence!
